A free Windows app that scans one or a few pages to PDF, recognises their text and prepares an email with the PDF attached. It works with driverless network scanners (eSCL) and with WIA and TWAIN drivers. Nothing to install: extract it and run it.

The x86 build suits most computers and also runs on 64-bit Windows. Choose x64 only when the scanner has a 64-bit TWAIN driver and nothing else.

FEATURES
What ITB Scan does
Network scanners without drivers. Finds eSCL (AirScan, Mopria) scanners on the network automatically and shows their IP, location and status: ready, busy or offline. A scanner that is not found can be added by IP address.
WIA and TWAIN drivers. Works with vendor WIA and TWAIN (32-bit and 64-bit) drivers: glass, feeder and duplex scanning in colour, greyscale or black and white.
One-click profiles. A profile remembers the scanner, source, colour, resolution and paper size. Double-clicking a profile scans straight away, and the app remembers the last scanner and profile.
Pages and PDF. Pages can be rotated, reordered or removed and saved as one PDF file. The default folder is Documents\Skenavimai.
Smaller PDF files. Three size levels: original quality, balanced (up to 200 DPI) and smallest file (up to 150 DPI). A 300 DPI A4 page shrinks from about 740 KB to about 174 KB or 73 KB, and black-and-white pages stay sharp.
Text recognition (OCR). In Lithuanian and English, including every Lithuanian letter with diacritics. The PDF gets an invisible text layer, so you can search it and copy text from it. Recognition runs on your computer.
Send by email. One button saves the PDF and opens a new email with it attached, in Outlook or your other mail program. You check the message and send it yourself.
Reliable with UTAX and Kyocera devices. The app releases finished scan jobs and waits while a temporarily busy device becomes ready again, so scans do not break off with a “503 Service Unavailable” error.
A log for technicians. The built-in log shows every scanning step, and verbose mode adds protocol detail. The itbscan-cli command-line tool supports remote diagnostics. The interface is available in Lithuanian and English.

What is new in this version
- Send by email (Ctrl+E): the PDF is saved and a new email opens with it attached.
- A PDF size button shows the expected file size and offers three levels: original quality, balanced and smallest.
- Text recognition (OCR) in Lithuanian and English: the PDF becomes searchable and its text can be copied.
- Scanning animation: the page being scanned shows a sweeping light bar, and a spinner turns in the status line.
- Everything from the earlier version stays: profiles, scanners remembered by UUID, dark and light themes, network scanner status.
- The download is now about 6 MB because it includes the text recognition engine and language models.

Frequently asked questions
Which build should I choose: x86 or x64?
The x86 (32-bit) build suits most computers and also runs on 64-bit Windows. A TWAIN driver only works in a program of the same bitness, so the x64 build is needed only when the scanner has a 64-bit TWAIN driver and nothing else. Network (eSCL) and WIA scanners work the same in both builds.
Does the app need to be installed?
No. Extract the ZIP archive to any folder and run ITBScan.exe. The app needs .NET Framework 4.8, which Windows 10 and Windows 11 already include.
Why does Windows show a warning when I start the app?
The app is not yet digitally signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning. Click More info and then Run anyway. You can check the integrity of the downloaded file against the SHA-256 checksum on this page.
Does the app send data anywhere?
No. ITB Scan connects only to scanners on your local network and uses the drivers installed on the computer. Scanned files, settings (%APPDATA%\ITBScan) and the log (%LOCALAPPDATA%\ITBScan\logs) stay on your computer.
Which scanners are supported?
Network scanners and multifunction devices that support eSCL (AirScan, Mopria), and scanners with a WIA or TWAIN driver. If a network scanner is not found automatically, you can add it by IP address.
Why does text recognition (OCR) not switch on?
Text recognition needs the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86 for the x86 build, x64 for the x64 build). It is usually installed already; if not, the OCR button's tip says so. The package is a free download from Microsoft.
How does send by email work?
The app saves the PDF to Documents\Skenavimai and opens a new email with it attached in your mail program, Outlook or whichever you use. If the mail program does not accept the attachment, the folder with the PDF opens so you can attach it yourself. You always send the email yourself.
What should I do if scanning fails?
Open the log in the top right corner, turn on verbose mode and scan again. Send us the log file from %LOCALAPPDATA%\ITBScan\logs and we will help find the cause.
